The 'Ukulele Guild of Hawai'i is a non-profit
organization dedicated to the preservation, prepetuation and promotion
of the 'Ukulele as a significant musical instrument.

The 'Ukulele Guild of Hawai'i received a Kahili
Award in the Events catagory for its Annual
Ukulele Exhibition.

Many Mahalos to everyone for making this year's
Ukulele Exhibition a huge success! This event was 100% volunteer
run, and could not have taken place without the generosity of many
people.
The Keep It Hawai‘i program was created
in 1991 as a way to formally recognize businesses, organizations and
individuals who year-round work to maintain and preserve Hawai‘i’s
unique culture.
The Keep it Hawai‘i awards showcases the incredible commitment
being made statewide by community-minded people and companies devoted
to perpetuating Hawai‘i’s culture and heritage. The entrants
are recognized for the work they do every day to help make Hawai‘i
such a uniquely exhilarating experience for our visitors and kama’aina
alike.

** Miki Browne Scholarship**

Through
the generosity of Miki Browne and her family,
an annual scholarship fund has been established for young
deserving students to learn ukulele making. It is with
great pleasure that the ‘Ukulele Guild of Hawaii announces
the Miki Browne Scholarship, in honor of one of the original
Guild members and the Guild’s first President. An
application is included in this newsletter and the deadline
for the first award in April 30. Additional details
and the application form will be posted on the Guild’s
website. The winner will be announced at our first
UGH Family Get Together, May 21.
- Scholarship shall be open to any applicant,
age 18 or older, sponsored by a member in good standing – membership
dues are current. Applicant shall demonstrate “deserving” characteristics
via past achievements, accomplishments, community service
and other activities.
- Scholarship winner shall be selected via
Scholarship Selection Committee consisting of volunteer Board
members and a member of the Browne family.
- Scholarship Award shall consist of one year
UGH membership and $500 monetary award to cover the costs
to attend an ‘ukulele making school and learn by creating
an ‘ukulele of their own. The finished ‘ukulele
should be displayed at the next Annual ‘Ukulele Exhibition
and Convention.

for this Scholarship fund can be made out to “Ukulele
Guild of Hawaii” with a memo (Miki Browne Scholarship
Fund) and sent to the same address.
